In short

Brake Caliper Refinishing is the removal, cleaning, preparation and repainting of brake calipers with heat-resistant paint. Discoloured, corroded or worn brake calipers regain a factory-level finish, in the original colour or a chosen shade. GT Exclusive charges from € 699 per set of four brake calipers, incl. VAT, with a 2-year paint warranty. Turnaround is usually 2 to 3 working days, because the paint is built up in several layers and must cure fully before refitting. The service is intended for owners of Porsche, BMW M, Audi RS, Ferrari and Aston Martin who want the view behind the spokes to match refinished wheels or a new wheel colour. Brake caliper painting is the logical completion after wheel refinishing and the foundation of an OEM+ appearance. Carried out in Nunspeet on the Veluwe, the Netherlands, for owners from Gelderland, Overijssel, Flevoland and Utrecht.

How we work

Controlled, from intake to delivery.

  1. 01

    Inspection and colour choice

We assess the brake calipers for corrosion, discolouration and leaks. The colour is chosen on the basis of factory colour, wheel colour and the desired end result.

  2. 02

    Removing the brake calipers

The brake calipers come off the car. This keeps brake discs, lines and pads free of paint and allows a complete, all-round finish.

  3. 03

    Cleaning and preparation

Brake dust, corrosion and old paint are removed down to a clean substrate. Seals and pistons remain masked and protected throughout the process.

  4. 04

    Heat-resistant paint build-up

Primer, colour and clear coat are applied in several layers and cured. Original lettering can be retained or reapplied.

  5. 05

    Refitting, bleeding and testing

The brake calipers are refitted, the brake system is bled and tested. This is followed by the final inspection under controlled lighting.

Why off the car

Spraying on the car is not refinishing

Brake calipers sprayed on the car are never fully reached at the rear. There is also a high risk of paint on the brake disc, lines or suspension. For Brake Caliper Refinishing we remove the brake calipers completely. Each caliper is cleaned all round, stripped of corrosion and built up with a heat-resistant paint system developed for the operating temperature of brakes. After curing we refit the calipers, bleed the brake system and test its operation. The result is a finish that matches the factory, particularly in combination with refinished wheels.

Colour options

From factory colour to RAL shade

01

Original factory colour

Porsche red, yellow or black, BMW M blue or Audi RS red matched exactly to the original. The brake calipers look as they did at delivery.

02

Black or anthracite

The discreet choice for a black optics finish. Dark brake calipers behind black wheels give a closed, calm appearance without conspicuous accents.

03

Bespoke contrast colour

A RAL shade or a colour matched to the paintwork or the interior. We advise with restraint: the colour must look as though it could have left the factory.

04

Gloss or satin

The gloss level determines how the caliper relates to the wheel. Gloss follows the factory, satin ties in with satin black wheels and chrome delete.

The GT Exclusive Standard

What sits behind the spokes counts.

A refinished wheel with a discoloured brake caliper behind it is only half a result. That is why we only paint brake calipers off the car, with a heat-resistant system and full curing before refitting. Bleeding, testing and final inspection are a standard part of the handover.

What is Brake Caliper Refinishing

Brake Caliper Refinishing is the removal, cleaning and repainting of brake calipers with a heat-resistant paint system. Brake calipers are visible through the spokes of every performance wheel. Brake dust, heat and road salt cause them to discolour and corrode. Refinishing brings the caliper back to factory standard, in the original colour or a chosen shade.

The difference from spraying brake calipers on the car is considerable. Only off the car can the caliper be reached all round, without paint on the brake disc or lines.

How does brake caliper painting work

The process is set out above in five steps: inspection, removal, preparation, paint build-up and refitting with bleeding. Each layer cures before the next is applied. Original lettering is retained or reapplied, depending on the desired end result. After refitting we test the brake system and check the finish under controlled lighting.

Who is it for

This service is intended for owners of Porsche, BMW M, Audi RS, Ferrari and Aston Martin who take the view behind the spokes seriously. A Porsche 911 whose red brake calipers have faded. A BMW M3 with blue calipers dulled by years of brake dust. An Audi RS6 that, with satin black wheels, deserves anthracite brake calipers too.

Brake caliper refinishing is the logical completion of alloy wheel repair and wheel refinishing. To close the picture entirely, combine it with chrome delete on window trim and grille. For lasting protection of wheel and caliper against brake dust, a wheel and brake caliper coating follows on from this.

What does brake caliper painting cost

Brake Caliper Refinishing starts at € 699 per set of four brake calipers incl. VAT. Removal, cleaning, heat-resistant paint build-up, refitting and bleeding are included. This is an indicative consumer price. The final price depends on the vehicle, its condition, material choice and the desired finish. Large brake systems and reapplying lettering are quoted separately. The overview of all starting prices is on the pricing page.

Warranty

The warranty is split. On the paint build-up, GT Exclusive provides a 2-year paint warranty on adhesion and finish. The paint system used is developed for brake components and withstands the operating temperature of brakes. Not covered are stone chips, aggressive acid-based wheel cleaners and mechanical work on the brake system by third parties. The full conditions are on the page about warranty on paintwork and installation.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Final prices and warranty terms follow after inspection of the car.

What does brake caliper painting cost?

Brake Caliper Refinishing starts at € 699 per set of four brake calipers incl. VAT. The price includes removal, cleaning, heat-resistant paint build-up, refitting and bleeding. Larger brake systems, heavily corroded calipers or reapplying lettering can affect the price.

Why are the brake calipers removed?

Only off the car can the brake caliper be cleaned and painted all round, without paint on the brake disc, lines or suspension. The paint cures fully before the caliper goes back on the car. That gives a factory finish and adhesion that justifies a 2-year paint warranty.

Which colour can a brake caliper have?

Technically any colour is possible. We do advise deliberately. On a Porsche, the colour communicates the brake system: yellow belongs to ceramic PCCB brakes, red to the steel sports brakes. A non-standard colour on a steel brake system can raise questions at resale. We discuss this beforehand.

Is heat-resistant paint really necessary?

Yes. Brake calipers reach high temperatures under spirited driving. Standard paint discolours, flakes or burns in. We use a paint system developed for brake components that, once fully cured, withstands the operating temperature of the brake system.

How long is the car away for brake caliper refinishing?

Allow 2 to 3 working days. The time goes into cleaning, the multi-layer paint build-up and full curing before refitting. In combination with wheel refinishing we schedule both jobs back to back, so the car only needs to come in once.

What warranty applies to brake caliper refinishing?

GT Exclusive provides a 2-year paint warranty on the adhesion and paint build-up of the refinished brake calipers. Damage from stone chips, aggressive wheel cleaners or mechanical work on the brake system is not covered by the warranty. The conditions are set out in the quotation and on the warranty page.
